Thousands Still Without Power in Westport

WESTPORT, Conn. – The sun is shining and the snow is beginning to melt in Westport, but thousands in town were still without power Monday morning following Saturday's  nor'easter.

As of 9:30 a.m., Connecticut Light & Power reported 2,909 outages in Westport — that's about 23 percent of town. Statewide, CL&P reported about 770,000 outages Monday morning, which was more than the peak number following Hurricane Irene.

"This will not be a 'quick fix ' — this may take more than a week to restore all of our customers. There are reports of trees down practically everywhere," said CL&P President and Chief Operating Officer Jeff Butler in statement on the company's website. "To help with damage assessments, we're using two helicopters. Our other priorities [Monday] are handling emergency situations and working in partnership with the towns to clear the blocked roads."

Butler added that crews will work around the clock until restoration efforts are complete.
