The Coins Are Gold, The Checks Are Bad

They glittered, and they were certainly gold; but some coins purchased by a Fairfield man in June won't help pay his bail. Maciej Raszczyk-Lawski was arrested on a warrant at his home for issuing a bad check and fourth-degree larceny: false pretense or promise.

Raszczyk-Lawski made three purchases last month at Sam Sloat Coins, 606 Post Road East. He was buying gold coins and paying by check. Except the checks were written from a closed account. In total, he bought $1,948.58 of merchandise.

Bond was set at $2,500; $600 higher than what landed Raszczyk-Lawski in trouble in the first place. He'll appear in Norwalk Superior Court on July 10.
