Tap Into the Weston Public Library's Treasures

WESTON, Conn. -- Whether you're staying close to home, traveling in the U.S., or traveling abroad, the Weston Public Library has a variety of resources to educate and entertain you. In addition to being a wonderful place to enjoy a book, magazine or newspaper and a cup of your favorite coffee, the library has resources to help you make the most of your summer.Museum passes are popular this time of year. The Friends of the Weston Public Library have generously supplied funding for more than 20 passes to local attractions, including the Maritime Aquarium, the Beardsley Zoo and the Florence Griswold Museum. A full list of museum passes and the discounts for each attraction is available on the Library's website at www.westonpubliclibrary.org. Passes can be checked out for seven days to give you plenty of time to plan your trip.

If you are getting ready for the new school year or are interested in learning a new skill or hobby, the library offers online resources you can access at the library or from home to help you in your intellectual pursuits. Universal Class has more than 500 self-paced courses with live instructors on topics ranging from algebra and physics to knitting and computer programs. For high school students preparing to take the SATs and ACTs, the library offers access to PrepMe. PrepMe provides live tutors, practice tests and personalized lesson plans to help boost your scores. Both of these resources are free with your Weston library card at www.westonpubliclibrary.org.

If you are planning to travel this summer, the Weston Public Library has a range of travel guides from popular publishers such as Fodor's and Frommer's to help prepare your trip. Looking for a location not covered in the collection? Try the library's newest electronic resource: AtoZ World Travel. AtoZ World Travel offers sight-seeing suggestions, hotel overviews, dining recommendations and more for cities in the United States and abroad. Access AtoZ World Travel on your computer or smartphone with your Weston library card at www.westonpubliclibrary.org.

Before you hit the road, don't forget to stop by the library for some leisure reading or viewing material. Our fiction, non-fiction, book on CD and DVD collections are constantly growing, and the library offers downloadable audiobooks through the online catalog. Titles are compatible with your favorite MP3 player or iPod. Check out the library's ongoing book sale, too, for titles by popular authors at bargain prices and free magazines.
