Westport resident Susan Abbott Steinnagel, an insurance and finance executive and longtime congregant of Christ & Holy Trinity Church, died Dec. 16. She was 59.
Steinnagel, who sang in the church choir and served in the vestry, the altar guild and the music and arts program, was a 1969 graduate of Simsbury High School. In 1973, she graduated from Syracuse University with a bachelor's degree in literature and later earned an MBA in finance from the University of Connecticut.
Steinnagel began her career at Aetna Life and Casualty Co. in Hartford, where she worked for five years as a senior investment analyst. After leaving Aetna, she embarked on a 20-year career at Moody's Investors Service as the managing director of the power and energy team.
In 2002, Steinnagel left Moody's and became a managing director of New Harbor Inc. She was president of Susan Abbott Consulting and was the chair of the rating agency panel for the EEl/Gee Strategies Group, LLC "Dialogue with Wall Street" series.
Steinnagel also lectured on project finance at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and was a faculty member of the University of Idaho's Public Utility Executive Course from 1994 to 2003.
She is survived by her husband Kent P. Steinnagel; parents William Hugh Durdan and Catharine M. Howell; two sisters, Joan Durdan Montgomery and Judy Durdan and her husband Thomas Samson; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Christ & Holy Trinity Church, 75 Church Lane, Westport. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution can be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network , 1500 Rosecrans Ave., Suite 200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266.
