As bad as Sandy was back on Oct. 29, 2012, insurance provider Swiss Re says it could have been worse and everyone needs to do more to prepare for "the Big One."

Insurance provider Swiss Re says Fairfield residents should prepare for a storm potentially more damaging than Superstorm Sandy.

In 1821, a hurricane more powerful than Superstorm Sandy made landfall along the East Coast and brought winds exceeding 156 mph to places such as New York, Boston and Washington, D.C.

While losses were minimal at the time due to the smaller populations in these cities, Swiss Re estimates another storm of this magnitude could bring more than $100 billion in damages with an economic impact closer to $150 billion.
