The storm closed schools and left roadways covered as wet, heavy snowfall came -- the heaviest seen perhaps since a blizzard almost exactly a year ago in Fairfield County. A Winter Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service continues until 6 p.m. Wednesday.
If you shoveled completely and cleared your car from Monday's storm, you may be surprised to see your driveway and vehicle already buried under heavy, wet snow. And sleet and freezing rain are expected to join the mix as the day wears on. The sleet will begin along the shoreline near Greenwich and Stamford and slowly move northward.
But with 3 to 5 inches of snow or more on the ground, and as much as 6 to 10 inches expected, the National Weather Service advises residents to travel only if necessary as sleet begins to mix with the snow.
Coastal towns from Greenwich to Fairfield will likely see dangerous icing conditions for the morning commute with sleet and freezing rain in the forecast. Inland towns such as Danbury, Ridgefield and Redding will likely see mostly snow with accumulations with sleet arriving later in the morning.
Snow, freezing rain and sleet will continue into the morning, with freezing rain and sleet likely in the afternoon, and returning to a snowy mix likely after 5 p.m.
A slight chance of snow and freezing drizzle continues tonight.
The storm is hitting interior and southern Connecticut as well as the lower Hudson Valley and northeast New Jersey.
Snow totals of 6 to 10 inches are possible across Connecticut by the end of the storm with a heavy coating of ice.
