The suspension came after David Bernstein, a 28-year-old resident of Fairfield, was arrested early Saturday in connection with a fight outside Anna Liffey’s Irish Pub and Restaurant in downtown Fairfield, the Hour said.

"He has been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation," Staples High School athletic director Marty Lisevick was quoted as saying in the Hour report.

An off-duty Fairfield police officer saw Bernstein, and Thomas Bajdah, 21, of Stratford, in front of the pub just after midnight, Fairfield police told the Daily Voice.

Both men were charged with breach of peace and released on a promise to appear in court Jan. 13.

Officers discovered Bridgeport police had a warrant to arrest Bernstein on an unrelated motor vehicle incident, police said. He posted $500 bond on the Bridgeport charge.
