A man who was raised in Stamford and lived in the area for years is clinging to life after being viciously stabbed Tuesday afternoon during a dispute, according to the Stamford Police.

Capt. Richard Conklin said the unidentified 46-year-old man remains in critical condition at Stamford Hospital but said that doctors worked miracles in saving his life he was attacked so brutally.

"He was stabbed so severely in the head and neck and torso area that it was life-threatening," Conklin said. "Thankfully, the public has stepped forward offering information that it looks like an arrest could be imminent."

The man was found lying in the rain on Stephen Street bleeding heavily. A Good Samaritan, who knows the man and his family, rushed him to the hospital.

"This was such a savage attack that it could have easily turned into a homicide," Conklin added.

The victim recently moved back to Stamford from Bridgeport and was staying with his family, Conklin said.
