Snoozing Driver Busted With Crack in Westport

WESTPORT, Conn. – An Easton man on parole was arrested in Westport on Thursday afternoon after police received a call about a man sleeping in a car near 59 Turkey Hill N., police said.

Upon arriving, officers spotted the car driving away. When officers stopped the car to check on the driver's well-being, they found Matthew Gromiller behind the wheel.

Police said Gromiller, 40, told the officers there was a pipe used to smoke crack cocaine in his pocket and one on the side of the driver's seat. A small bag containing crack cocaine was later found inside the car as well.

A computer check on Gromiller revealed he was on parole. He was charged with possession of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was turned over to his probation officer and is due in court July 22.
