WESTPORT, Conn. An Easton man on parole was arrested in Westport on Thursday afternoon after police received a call about a man sleeping in a car near 59 Turkey Hill N., police said.
Upon arriving, officers spotted the car driving away. When officers stopped the car to check on the driver's well-being, they found Matthew Gromiller behind the wheel.
Police said Gromiller, 40, told the officers there was a pipe used to smoke crack cocaine in his pocket and one on the side of the driver's seat. A small bag containing crack cocaine was later found inside the car as well.
A computer check on Gromiller revealed he was on parole. He was charged with possession of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was turned over to his probation officer and is due in court July 22.

Westport resident Sandra Gibson, of 12 Bayberry Lane, was arrested early Friday after an officer spotted a stopped car at a green light on Bridge Street. Police said the car started driving once the traffic light cycled through to green again. The officer pulled the car over after it was seen crossing over the double yellow center line. In speaking with Gibson, who was driving, the officer smelled alcohol on her breath. Although Gibson, 41, refused a breath test, she failed field sobriety tests and was charged with operating under the influence, failure to drive in the proper lane and failure to obey a control sign. She was released after posting $500 bond and is due in court July 18.
