Sisters Identified as Victims of Merritt Car Fire

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Two sisters were killed in Saturday’s fatal crash on the Merritt Parkway in Fairfield, the Connecticut State Police said Monday as it released the names of the victims.

Chantel and Tiffany Osorio, both of Stratford, died when their car veered off the highway and burst into flames.

Facebook tribute pages were launched in the sisters’ honor even before the state police’s announcement Monday. The two reportedly were driving back from Chantel’s 24th birthday party when the fiery accident occurred. Police believe she was driving a car registered to Tiffany, 21, at the time.

State police investigators believe the accident began when the car veered left onto the grass median between exits 42 and 44. The car then swerved across both lanes of the highway before hitting a tree on the right side of the road. The vehicle then spun, hitting a second tree and bursting into flames.

Both women were pronounced dead at the scene when emergency responders arrived. They were identified Monday using their dental records. State police were still investigating the accident.
