The Westport PAL (Police Athletic League) rink at Longshore has made several changes this year.

The rink has been extended by 15 feet to meet NHL and FCIAC regulations in preparation for four regular season games the Staples Wreckers Hockey team will play this year. The rink has also extended its weekend skating hours for the public until 11 p.m. and added a new DJ sound system. There's also a webcam set up for people to check out the skating activities from their home.

“We could not be more thrilled with all of these improvements” said Tony Lantier, owner of Thin Ice Management, the rink management company for Westport PAL. “We’re happy to have kept our pricing unchanged for over 15 years, making skating at our rink an affordable and a fun family-friendly activity.”

The Westport PAL rink originally opened 18 years ago and was located in front of Splash Restaurant and Bar. The rink was donated to the PAL by the DeCaro family, owners of Splash, to create a fun, safe place for kids and families to skate outdoors.

The PAL rink has also launched Facebook and Instagram accounts to keep skaters up to date on what's going on and new deals. Anyone who likes the PAL rink on Facebook or Instagram will receive a free hour of skating from 6 to 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. They just have to bring their phone to show that they have liked the page.

The rink is open daily until March for public skating, and is available to rent for private events and evening hockey games. Check the rink's website or call 203-226-7465 to check availability.
