WESTPORT, Conn. Three people were arrested with about $5,000 worth of stolen items in Westport on Monday night after a shoplifting incident was reported at CVS, located at 397 Post Road E., police said.
CVS employees called police at 8:20 p.m. and reported that a suspect fled the store after shoplifting. When police arrived, Officer Albert Nowinski found Jeffrey Louis Vaughn of New York and a juvenile female accomplice inside a car near the store. Officers also found items stolen from CVS and other drug stores near the car. About $5,000 worth of items consisting of teeth whitener, hair regrowth treatment, razor blades and allergy medications were recovered.
The suspect who fled the store was not in the car. However, he was captured on the store's video surveillance and arrested when Officer Paul Wargo recognized him in a nearby store. Cecil L. Williams, also of New York, was taken into custody with the assistance of Officer Kevin Smith and state police.
Vaughn, 26, and Williams, 35, were charged with third-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny. Their bond was set at $10,000 each. They are due in court Dec. 8.
