Shirley Yvonne Huston Young, a 31-year Westport resident and former visiting nurse, died Oct. 18 in Wilton. She was 84.
Young was born on June 9, 1926, in Schenectady, N.Y. She graduated from Scotia High School in 1944. She later became a visiting nurse.
In 1950, she married her husband, Richard Allen Young, and in 1969, she and her family moved to Westport, where she lived until she retired to Wallingford in 2000. She moved to Wilton in 2006.
Young had many hobbies, including painting, gardening, cooking and entertaining family and friends. She also enjoyed going to the theater and to museums.
In addition to her husband of 57 years, Young was predeceased by her brother, Robert, and her sister, Blanche Stahl.
She is survived by three children, Bruce Young and wife Shir Filler of Vermontville, N.Y., Karen Rasmussen and husband Randy of Wilton and Lisa Young-Fleming and husband Jim of New Rochelle, N.Y.; and three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were private. Burial was in Schoharie County, N.Y.
