This rainy weather was forecast even as Tropical Storm Arthur, the first significant storm of the season, threatened to create storms, heavy rains and flash flooding in Fairfield County over the Independence Day weekend, according to Accuweather.com.
There is a chance Wednesday afternoon and evening of showers and thunderstorms, which could be severe, with large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rain. The chance of precipitation is 50 percent.
Showers and thunderstorms are likely Wednesday night, mainly between 9 and midnight. Patchy fog will roll in after midnight. The chance of precipitation is 60 percent.
Arthur's tropical system is expected to travel up the East Coast and bring more heavy rain to the region Thursday night, July 3, into Friday night, July 4.
Humidity and warm temperatures are expected to continue through Thursday with a high temperature of 84 and a 60 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms.
Accuweather.com expects the storm to turn east and head out to sea, which could provide some clearing by Friday evening for fireworks.
Friday will be cooler, with a high of 83 and a 60 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms earlier in the day.
Skies will clear for Saturday, July 5, and Sunday, July 6, with temperatures in the low 80s.
