WESTPORT, Conn. Services for former Westport Selectman Gavin Anderson , who died Monday at St. Vincents Hospital, will be held next week at Westports Christ & Holy Trinity Church.
Calling hours are set for Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will take place Wednesday at 2 p.m. and will be followed by a reception, Selectwoman Shelly Kassen announced at Tuesday nights Board of Finance meeting.
Anderson, 74, was involved in many aspects of Westport life. A Republican, he was the minority member on the Board of Selectmen for a year until he resigned over health concerns in November 2010. He served seven years on the Board of Finance and was a member of the Representative Town Meeting and Saugatuck River Watershed Partnership and chairman of the selectmens Maintenance Committee and the Sherwood Mill Pond Committee.
Anderson was also a longtime member of Westport Sunrise Rotary and Christ & Holy Trinity Church.
Gavin was a pillar in our community, giving his time and passion for the benefit of all of Westport, Board of Finance Chairman Avi Kaner said at Tuesdays meeting.
When I was first elected to this board, Gavin served as my mentor. He welcomed me into his home, shared his wonderful insights, and his passion and affection for our town was truly contagious.
