Sedan Drives Into Westport Home

WESTPORT, Conn. – An unsafe lane change is to blame for an accident that sent a car through a Post Road East home in Westport on Saturday night, police said.

No injuries were reported in the accident, which happened shortly after 6:30 p.m. when Bridgeport resident Zexiao Lu, 25, was cut off by another driver. Westport Police Lt. Arthur Belile said Lu was driving east in the inside lane near Maple Avenue when a car in the outside lane abruptly moved into his lane.

Lu lost control of his car, crossed over the westbound lanes and crashed through a wooden fence at 1655 Post Road E. The car became airborne and smashed through one of the units. The resident was not home at the time of the accident.

The driver of the second car, 42-year-old Southport resident Daniella Stavreva-Zlatareva, was issued an infraction for the unsafe lane change, which carries a fine of $132.

Three cats and a dog were removed from the residence after the accident. The car was removed from the building, and the owner of the property was making arrangements to have it boarded up, Acting Westport Fire Captain Michael Kronick said.
