Route 58 Closed This Weekend For Bridge Replacement Near Redding

REDDING, Conn. -- Route 58 will be closed in Bethel near the Redding border this weekend so the bridge over Putnam Brook can be removed and replaced, the Connecticut Department of Transportation announced.

Both the northbound and southbound lanes of Route 58 will be closed between Hoyts Hill Road and Saras Way from 6 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Tuesday, DOT said. The site is just north of Putnam Memorial State Park in Redding.

The project consists of removal of Bridge No. 02402 that carries Route 58, or Putnam Park Road, over Putnam Brook in Bethel. The work includes removing the existing stone masonry culvert and installing a precast concrete box culvert and wing walls, along with new drainage and pavement.

Detour signs will direct motorists around the closure. Motorists will be detoured from Putnam Park Road (Route 58) at Milwaukee Avenue (Route 302) onto Glassy Plain Road/Redding Road (Route 53) to Hill Road/Lonetown Road (Route 107) and back onto Putnam Park Road (Route 58).

DOT Project No. 0009-0094 was awarded to Waters Construction Co. from Bridgeport. The $772,766 contract was awarded April 2.
