Rock to Springsteen Songs in Westport for a Cause

WESTPORT, Conn. – What can you do with $10 in Westport this weekend? You can catch Lost in the Flood, a Bruce Springsteen tribute band, and help support the Arthur C. Luf Children's Burn Camp at the same time.

On Saturday, Bobby Q's on Main Street is hosting its seventh-annual benefit for the Westport Firefighters Benevolent Fund. From 9 p.m. to midnight, Lost in the Flood, led by Westport resident Frank Bergonzi, will perform at the restaurant's rooftop beer garden.

"This is a great summer tradition for downtown Westport, especially Bobby Q's," said Bob LeRose, owner of the restaurant, located at 42 Main St. "It's the highlight of our year—we love hosting it. It's a terrific night for a great cause."

There is a $10 donation at the door. LeRose said the money will be donated to the Westport Firefighters Benevolent Fund. From there, Westport Fire Chief Andrew Kingsbury said the money will be donated to the burn camp, located in Union, Conn.

"It's a camp just for kids who've survived burn injuries,” Kingsbury explained. "But it's not just for kids from Connecticut or the northeast. Some of the kids there travel far."

Though the benefit is hosted at Bobby Q's, LeRose said it was the brainchild of Bergonzi, the band's lead singer. A resident for 16 years, Bergonzi said he was inspired to reach out to firefighters after the Sept. 11 terror attacks.

"I started doing benefit performances for firefighters around 2002, 2003 before I joined Lost in the Flood," Bergonzi said. "I had this great propensity to help out firefighters after seeing what they went through."

For Saturday night's performance, Bergonzi said people can expect to hear between 26 and 27 songs. Many, he said, will be dedicated to Clarence Clemons, the E Street Band saxophonist who died last month.

If you'd like to support the Westport Firefighters Benevolent Fund, but can't make it to Bobby Q's Saturday, checks made out to Westport Professional Firefighters Association, Inc. can be sent to fire headquarters, 515 Post Road E. in Westport.
