WESTPORT, Conn. A new restaurant will be delivered at 154 Post Road E., the site of Westports former main post office branch.
The historic building was last week leased to 154 Post LLC, a Westport-based group, said Franco Fellah, executive vice president of HK Group, a commercial real estate firm. Over the next few months, it will be transformed into one of downtowns newest dining attractions.
The entire building will be renovated, said Fellah, who represented the buildings owners, Ansley Westport Partners, in lease negotiations. Work will take several months. It can take anywhere between four to eight months to complete.
The property, built in 1935, was sold by the United States Postal Service to Ansley Westport Partners, a Georgia-based company, in May 2011 for about $2.36 million. The post office relocated to Playhouse Square in January.
Although a restaurant lease is in place, neither Fellah nor Alon Panovka, a lawyer representing Ansley Westport, could share details about what type of restaurant it will be.
Theyre still developing what it will look like, and what type of food will be served, Panovka said Thursday. The concept is still very much in the early stages.
While specific details are not yet available, Fellah said current plans call for a large bar and an outdoor patio. The restaurant will be two floors: The first and main floor is 4,650-square-feet and has 14-foot high ceilings. The lower level, planned for use as private party and banquet space, is 4,200-square-feet. The restaurant will also feature an elevator, Fellah said.
Fellah did not know if the plans call for exterior renovations, in addition to the interior work.
Sharon Maddern of David Adam Realty in Westport represented the tenants, 154 Post LLC, in lease negotiations, Fellah said. Maddern could not be reached for comment Thursday.
