Comey, 52, served as deputy attorney general from 2003 to 2005 under former President George W. Bush. From 2005 to 2010, he worked as general counsel at Lockheed Martin Corp., a global aerospace, defense, security and technology company based in Maryland, according to Bloomberg.
In 2010, Comey became general counsel of the Westport-based hedge fund Bridgewater Associates. Earlier this year, he left Bridgewater to become senior research scholar and Hertog Fellow on National Security at Columbia University Law School in New York, Bloomberg reports.
Before becoming deputy attorney general, Comey served as the U.S. attorney for the southern district of New York, Bloomberg reports. If nominated and approved by lawmakers, he would replace current FBI Director Robert Mueller, who is stepping down in September after 12 years on the job.
