Primary Voting to be in Full Swing

In Westport, the number of races on the primary ballot today will depend on where the voter lives. Democratic and Republican voters in the 133rd District can cast ballots only in state primaries. Those in the 136th District will vote in both state and local primaries.

Democratic Registrar of Voters Marla Cowden said she expected the day to be busy.

"It's going to be hectic, especially in the morning when things get going," Cowden said. "It'll slow down in the afternoon. But in the evening, as we close the polls and post the results, it'll be hectic again."

In the 133rd District, five races appear on the Republican ballot. In the race for governor are Tom Foley, Michael Fedele, and Oz Griebel. Lieutenant governor candidates include Mark Boughton and Lisa Wilson-Foley. Vying for the U.S. Senate race are Linda McMahon, Peter David Schiff, and Rob Simmons. Congressional hopefuls are Dan Debicella, Rob Merkle, and Rick Torres. Candidates for attorney general include Martha Dean and Ross Garber.

In the 136th District, the Republican ballot also includes the state representative race with Nitzy Cohen and Stephen Rubin vying.

In both districts, the Democratic ballot has four races. Vying for governor are Dan Malloy and Ned Lamont. Lieutenant governor candidates include Nancy Wyman and Mary Messina Glassman. Secretary of the state candidates are Denise Merrill and Gerry Garcia. In the comptroller race are Kevin Lembo and Michael Jarjura.

Polls will be open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. In the 133rd District, voting is at Greens Farms School on 17 Morningside Drive S.

Polling locations for the 136th District include: Saugatuck Elementary School, 170 Riverside Ave.; Coleytown Middle School, 225 North Ave.; Long Lots School, 13 Hyde Lane; Greens Farms School, 17 Morningside Drive S.; and Kings Highway School, 125 Post Road W.
