Playhouse Square Shopping Center on Post Road East will be the new home of the main post office in Westport, but First Selectman Gordon Joseloff is disappointed in the U.S. Postal Service's decision.
"We told the Postal Service last summer that the best location would be to remain in the present building," Joseloff said in a statement. "We had hoped an accommodation would be reached with the purchaser of building to allow a small Postal Service presence to remain there."
However, Joseph J. Mulvey, a real estate specialist at the USPS Northeast Facilities Service Office in Massachusetts, said this location would be a fitting home for the new post office.
"We believe this new site will provide the community with an efficient, modern facility that offers a safe working environment for our employees and a level of service expected by our customers," Mulvey wrote in a Feb. 18 letter to Joseloff.
Although there was no mention of when the post office would move from its current location at 154 Post Road E. to Playhouse Square, Mulvey said Joseloff may offer comments on the location within 30 days.
