Pollster to Reveal Secrets of the Data

Westport resident and pollster James Delorey will share the art and science behind political polling with members of Westport Sunrise Rotary Club at 7:30 a.m. Friday.

Delorey, vice president at Global Strategy Group, a firm that combines market research with politics and corporate communications, will explain what polls are, how they work and what they do.

Since joining Global Strategy Group in 2000, Delorey has advised senatorial, congressional, gubernatorial and state legislative campaigns across the country. In 2004 and 2008, Delorey worked as the lead research analyst for West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin 's campaign and now is the lead research analyst for Manchin's 2010 campaign for the U.S. Senate.

Delorey has been named a "Rising Star of Politics" by campaigns and elections magazine.

Outside of politics, Delorey's clients include the National Academy of Engineering , WGBH in Boston and Boy Scouts of America.

A graduate of McGill University in Montreal, Delorey also holds a master's degree in political science from the New School for Social Research in New York. He also did graduate work in political science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He lives in Westport with his wife, Angela, and son, Perrin.

When he's not working, Delorey plays center for the Stamford Nordiques Hockey Club .

The event will be held at Bobby Q's Restaurant , 42 Main St., Westport. Guests are welcome. There is a $12 fee for the meeting, which includes a breakfast buffet.
