Police: Westport Man Swiped Wallet From Store

WESTPORT, Conn. – Westport resident Peter Halka was arrested and charged with misdemeanor larceny after police said he stole a wallet that was left behind at a Dunkin Donuts Saturday.

When the owner of the wallet returned to the Dunkin Donuts at 606 Post Road E. to retrieve it, it was already gone. Store management viewed the store’s video surveillance and saw that the wallet had been picked up by a man, later identified as Halka, on his way out of the shop, according to the police report.

Police said they were able to identify Halka, 24, as the suspect through a credit card transaction that was made before the wallet was taken. When located at his Roseville Road home, he also matched the description of the suspect in the video, police said.

Halka is suspected of taking the cash from the wallet before throwing it in a garbage bin outside a gas station, where it was later recovered.  He was charged with sixth degree larceny and released on a promise to appear in court on May 1.
