EASTON, Conn. -- No human remains were found in a landfill in eastern Connecticut during a search for a missing Easton couple, State Police said as they made a call for the public's help in the case.

Jeffery Navin, 56, president of J&J Refuse in Westport, and his wife, Jeanette, 55, a library paraprofessional at Weston Intermediate School, have been missing since Aug. 4, according to police.

The search was done at the Putnam Ash Residue Landfill, operated by Wheelabrator Technologies, which collects ash from all of the state’s waste-to-energy facilities.

The search has revealed no human remains at this point. State Police detectives are conducting searches, gathering evidence, and following leads to determine the whereabouts of the Navins.

State police detectives searched the landfill to rule out any connection to the couple's disappearance, police said, adding that Wheelabrator has been cooperating with authorities.

State Police have also searched the Bridgeport home of their son, Kyle Navin, who works at J&J Refuse and is the last person known to have seen them.

The couple's abandoned pickup truck was found with a broken window Aug. 9 in a commuter parking lot off the Merritt Parkway in Westport.

Police are asking anyone with any knowledge of the Navins' whereabouts to call 860-685-8190. All calls will be kept confidential, police said.
