The Westport Police Force added five new officers to the ranks on Wednesday following the 328th Basic Training Session of the Connecticut Police Academy. Residents can expect to see Officers John J. Lachioma, James M. Loomer, Scott C. Morrison, Michael J. Ruttenber, and Paul M. Wargo patrolling on their own starting in October.
In the meantime, they each need to complete a 400-hour field training program which began Thursday. Ruttenber, who also serves as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, also needs to attend his annual training.
During the 22-week training session Loomer and Ruttenber both achieved accolades. Loomer earned a firearms arms award for getting a perfect score on his weapons qualification test. Ruttenber served as a class sergeant. Chief Alfred Fiore, Deputy Chief Dale Call, Capt. Samuel Arciola and Capt. Foti Koskinas all attended the graduation ceremony. The new officers began their journey with a written exam in October 2009.
