Plans Move Ahead for Weston's Lachat Farmhouse

WESTON, Conn. — Carol Baldwin said she hopes after plans are drawn and costs are estimated, she will be able to raise more money to restore the Lachat Farmhouse. Baldwin told the Board of Selectmen on Thursday that she has yet to increase the $55,000 she has raised.

A group was recently formed — The Lachat Farm Friends — which Baldwin said has been meeting to discuss options for the property. "I'm getting a really positive response to the town farm idea," said Baldwin.

In late March, a group of Weston residents spoke against a proposal to tear down the historic farmhouse, which was built in 1770. Since that meeting, Baldwin has set out to find grant money to restore the property. She expects plans to be drawn up by Monday and then will be able to estimate the amount of money needed for the project.

Baldwin will report back to the Board of Selectmen in September.
