Two men were injured after their pickup truck crashed into the corner of a building at 489 Post Road E. in Westport on Thursday afternoon.
The accident happened shortly after 2:30 p.m. The truck was reportedly heading west on the Post Road when it veered off the roadway and slammed into the building, which was occupied at the time. No one inside the building was injured, but both the driver and passenger of the truck were hospitalized, Assistant Fire Chief Larry Conklin reported.
The building was evacuated and utilities were shut down to the affected part of the building. The building's structural stability was heavily damaged, so firefighters constructed and placed temporary shoring in the corner of the building after the truck was removed to prevent any further collapse.
Treco Construction was called in at about 5 p.m. The last fire unit left the area by 5:35 p.m.
