UPDATED 9:10 p.m.: WESTPORT, Conn. The woman hit while crossing Post Road East in Westport on Wednesday night was identified as 19-year-old Aja Barksdale of Bridgeport. The driver of the Honda that hit her was identified as 18-year-old Dylan Meissner of Westport.
The accident remained under investigation.
Original Story: An unidentified woman was rushed to Norwalk Hospital after she was hit by a car on Post Road East in Westport near Bulkley Avenue on Wednesday evening, police said.
The accident happened at about 5:15 p.m. when the woman tried crossing from the north side near 1835 Post Road E. and was hit by a black Honda traveling west, said Lt. Arthur Belile, head of the accident investigation unit.
A witness said the driver of the car had a green light.
The woman, Belile said, sustained what appeared to be serious, but non-life-threatening head injuries. At this time, he said it did not seem that the car's speed was a factor in the accident.
"It appears the pedestrian crossed the road without using the crosswalk that's about 150 feet up the road," Belile said.
Police did not know the name or age of the woman. More information will be released as it is received, Belile said.
