The drivers involved in a two-car crash on the Merritt Parkway in Westport Tuesday morning escaped with only minor injuries.
At around 11:14 a.m., the Westport Fire Department, along with Westport EMS, state police and Norwalk Hospital Paramedics, responded to the report of a two-car accident with injuries on the parkway south between exits 41 and 40.
Responding units found the airbags deployed in both cars. One car was missing a front wheel. The other apparently went off the road and struck several small trees before coming to a stop back on the parkway, Assistant Fire Chief William Dingee said in a release.
Both drivers reported minor injuries and were taken to Norwalk Hospital for observation. Though both cars were heavily damaged, the drivers were not seriously hurt because they were buckled up and their cars had airbags.
