Out-Of-Town Commuter Shuttle Service Ends In Westport

WESTPORT, Conn. – Now that limited train service has resumed along Metro-North’s New Haven Line, shuttle bus services provided in Westport to out-of-town commuters by the Metro Transit Authority ended at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Westport Police Chief Dale Call said in a statement.

This means after 4:30 p.m., the only buses departing from the Saugatuck station will be regularly scheduled Norwalk/Westport Transit District shuttles, Call said.

Also, road restrictions that were in place around the Saugatuck station have been rescinded, Call said. Extra traffic personnel will be on hand throughout the afternoon, however, to assist with the expected traffic resulting from Tuesday morning’s higher-than-normal parking usage at the station, he said.

Train service, although limited, resumed along the entire New Haven Line at 3 p.m. The first train headed to New Haven from Grand Central since Friday’s derailment in Bridgeport left at 3:07 p.m. The first westbound train from New Haven to Grand Central departed at 4:23 p.m., and is scheduled to arrive in Westport at 5:02 p.m.

All scheduled stops on the line will be made, including Westport’s Greens Farms station, which has been out-of-service since Friday’s accident.

“The Westport Police Department would like to thank our commuting public and local business community for their understanding and cooperation over the previous two days,” Call said in the statement.
