More than 250 people listened to music that filled Notre Dame Church during a concert Sunday to benefit Easton's 9/11 memorial. About 3,000 miles away on the same day, U.S. Navy SEALs executed Osama bin Laden.
"It's a funny feeling it's appropriate that we had it on the same day. I don't know what to call it. The man responsible for us having to create the memorial was killed," said Dr. Sal Santella, who was the chairman of the original committee formed in 2007 to construct a memorial and is treasurer of the building committee for the memorial.
Aaron Caruso sang patriotic music Sunday while Santella's wife, Marilyn, held Lee Hanson's shoulders. Lee Hanson's son, Peter Hanson, and Peter's wife Sue and their 2-year-old daughter Christine were on the hijacked plane that crashed into the South Tower of the World Trade Center in 2001.
The concert raised money for a memorial to be constructed on the green in front of the Easton Library.
