One Driver Hurt in Two-Vehicle Crash in Westport

WESTPORT, Conn. – A two-vehicle accident on Interstate 95 south in Westport between exits 18 and 17 sent one driver to the hospital Thursday afternoon, Assistant Fire Chief Robert Kepchar reported.

The accident, which occurred at 2:15 p.m., involved a tractor-trailer and a late-model Toyota sedan. The car was extensively damaged, and a fuel tank was partially ripped off the tractor-trailer, Kepchar said in a statement.

The driver of the Toyota was transported to Norwalk Hospital by Westport EMS.

To remove the dangling fuel tank, which turned out to be empty, firefighters cut the tanks supports. The accident was cleared at 3:30 p.m.
