Norwalk Man Nabbed After Halfway House Escape

A man with a conviction for a weapons charge may be heading back behind bars after attempting a great escape from his halfway house in Fairfield County.

Branden Huertas, formerly of Norwalk, was arrested by members of the Norwalk Police Department Special Services Division on School Street earlier this week after escaping from the custody of the Bureau of Prisons.

According to the indictment that was Huertas, 36, escaped custody at the Chase Center in Waterbury on June 22, where he had been to complete his term of incarceration following a 2015 conviction for unlawful possession of a firearm.

If he is found guilty of his attempted escape, Huertas faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. He’s currently being detained and is due in court at a later date to answer the charge.
