Nicholas Joseph DeMaria, Fought in WWII

A Mass was held at Westport's Assumption Church on Feb. 24 for former Westport resident Nicholas Joseph DeMaria, an Army veteran of World War II who died on Feb. 20. He was 86.

DeMaria, a resident of Forest Hills, N.Y., was born on March 18, 1924, in Westport. He attended Westport schools and later moved to New York, where he worked as an insurance underwriter until his retirement.

DeMaria is survived by a brother, Samuel DeMaria; three sisters, Angie Macaluso, Jane Doucette and Gloria Licari; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Frank, Joseph and Jack DeMaria and a sister, Nette Reitano.

Burial took place at Assumption Cemetery, Kings Highway. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Assumption Church. The Harding Funeral Home in Westport handled the arrangements.
