Lt. Daniel McGill said the brigade arrived Thursday and has already performed more than 20 jobs. On Saturday afternoon they were on Steep Hill Road preparing to cut down a tree that had fallen across power lines.
Weston Police Sgt. Patrick Daubert said the Guard members were waiting for a call from CL&P to notify them that the line the tree was resting against was safe.
Daubert lauded the assistance of the National Guard. "They're making a major dent in the problem with the trees, and we don't have the resources to deal with a storm of this magnitude," he said.
With many Weston streets still blocked by trees, he doubted CL&P would be able to restore power to all homes by next Tuesday.
"It will be until mid week, at least," he said.
