Keith Knox, 32, shot his wife, 33-year-old Jennifer Knox, to death Wednesday evening in their home at the Laurel Gardens public housing complex Bridgeport, then turned the gun on himself, police said. Her family said he had abused his wife throughout their relationship and had threatened to kill her previously.

Three other separate fatal shootings occurred in Bridgeport in the past week. Ronald Simmons, 44, was shot to death on State Street during a dispute with a neighbor. Reginald May, 44, was shot to death on Alice Street. Chaz Rogers, 37, was killed on Stratford Avenue.

An 18-year-old Bridgeport woman suffered a graze wound to her head when bullets were fired into a Lakeside Drive home, police said.

After five deadly shootings in as many days in Bridgeport, Ron Pinciaro, executive director of Connecticut Against Gun Violence, called on city leaders to embrace Project Longevity to cut violence.

Just as the city faces a frightening spree of shootings, the Bridgeport Police Department added to its ranks with the swearing in of 24 new officers. Mayor Joe Ganim and Police Chief AJ Perez said this would allow the city to increase patrols.

Mistake-laden signs about new rules at a pocket beach and a park in Black Rock have residents up in arms — and dog owners wondering just where they can find a “6’ leach” to walk their pooches. The signs, posted at tiny Seabright Beach, offer a laundry list of rules banning everything from alcoholic beverages and unattended kayaks to ATVs, buses and “organized music or public speaking.”

It was last call for the Redding Roadhouse, a landmark eatery on Route 53 in town that has closed its doors. The popular eatery was known for its burgers, brunch and steak — as well as its live music. Jordan Wright, who had operated the family business, died last November of bone cancer at age 40.

Jack Corcoran, 26, of Trumbull, was arrested after he was discovered hiding in the bushes outside his ex-girlfriend’s house In Fairfield and got into a scuffle with her brother, police said.

Westport police urged residents to be vigilant after an attempted burglary and a burglary that took place while the homeowners were sleeping on Bonnie Brook Road.

Lovers of fresh produce, meat, baked goods, handmade objects and more have additional opportunities to experience the Shelton Farmers Market. It's now open on Thursdays at St. Paul's Church in Huntington as well as Wednesdays and Saturdays downtown.

Derran Morris has been charged with beating one of his 2-year-old twin daughters to death and critically injuring the second in their home in Mount Vernon, N.Y. The family recently moved there from Bridgeport because the girls had lead poisoning.
