FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn -- Thousands of motorcyclists will hit the streets and travel throughout Fairfield County on Sunday in honor of the victims of Sept. 11 as part of the 15th annual CT United Ride.

Pre-registration will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Captains Cove marina, 1 Bostwick Ave., Bridgeport.

Same-day registration is held at Norden Park in Norwalk starting at 8:30 a.m.; ceremonies begin at 10:30 and the ride at 11:30.

The ride ends at Seaside Park in Bridgeport for an afternoon of food and music with performances by both rock and blues bands.

The donation per motorcycle is $25 per rider and/or passenger. A donation is required to ride in the escorted line.

Organizers are asking anyone interested in the event to pre-register so they can accommodate everyone who wants to participate.

The event, the largest 9/11 tribute in the state, was started in 2001 by Frederick Garrity Jr. and the Fairfield County Labor Council in response to the terrorist attacks on the United States.

The first ride attracted 500 motorcyclists and raised money for three 9/11 victim relief funds. Since then, the event has grown, with more than 2,000 motorcyclists taking part last year.

“For those that lost their lives, for those that gave their lives, and for those that continue to put their lives on the line every day to protect us as a result of 9/11 -- that’s why we ride,” Garrity said in a press release.

The event begins at Norden Park in Norwalk at Exit 17 off Interstate 95. The riders will travel up Route 136 to Route 33 through Westport to Route 7 in Wilton to Route 107 in Georgetown to Route 58N in Redding to Route 302 in Bethel to Route 25 in Newtown through Monroe to Main Street in Trumbull to Old Town Road to Park Avenue in Fairfield continuing into Bridgeport to Seaside Park.

There will be vendors, food and entertainment available.
