Lynn Stephens Massey won Best in Show at the Annual Mother's Day Art Show and Sale at St. Vincent's Medical Center, Behavioral Health Service. Massey's painting, All Together earned her a $500 gift certificate from Jerry's Artarama.
I just thought Oh My Gosh! said Massey. This is fantastic. I kind of even spaced out and forgot they were even giving out an award until they announced it.
All Together is Masseys depiction OF people reaching for their shared dreams. She painted multi-colored hands on old paper bags because she likes recycling everyday items in her art. This was her first entry in the Hall-Brooke show.
The show featured a dozen artists. Their works hang in the St. Vincent's Medical Center Community Room. The Friends of Hall-Brooke sponsor the event. They host a variety of benefits for the hospital's behavioral health services branch. Thirty-five percent of the show's sales go to the organization to help fight negative community perceptions of mental illness.
Karen Ford, Dalton Ghetti, and Julie O'Conner, past winners of the best-in-show award, and entered new art this year. Ford sent Massey a congratulatory email. Massey intends to use her gift certificate for more art supplies.
