"It appears that the worst of the snowstorm has passed out of the Westport area. We are fortunate that the snowfall has been much less than anticipated and that there have been no electrical outages, minimal shoreline flooding, and no significant public safety emergencies," Marpe said in a message to the town.

He thanked residents for heeding the town's warnings and staying indoors and off the roads. Residents should continue to stay off the roads for a few more hours to allow road and parking lot clearing to be completed, Marpe said.

"I also want to thank our Public Works employees for their commitment to clearing our roads as quickly and thoroughly as possible," he said. "Thanks also to our EMS, Police and Firefighting personnel for their extra preparations and readiness to respond to any weather related emergencies."

The Human Service Department and the Senior Center staff, led by Sue Pfister and Margaret Pinheiro, maintained the Senior Center as a rest and meal location for public works and public safety responders, and that they did "an outstanding job," Marpe said.

"And thanks to Westport's two Rotary clubs for manning the telephone information lines at the Emergency Operations Center," he said. "Fire Inspector Nate Gibbons deserves special recognition for once again keeping Westporters informed through his broadcasts on Staples HS Wreckers Radio, 90.3 FM."

Marpe said he expects Town Hall to be open for regular business hours on Wednesday.
