Maria Izzo, a Westport resident for 57 years, died on Wednesday two weeks shy of her 102nd birthday. Born Nov. 22, 1908, in Cavallare, Italy, she was the wife of the late Luigi Izzo.
Izzo was a former member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Court Assumption. Cooking and spending time with her family were two of her favorite activities.
She is survived five daughters, Angelina Carusone and her husband, Joseph, of Anzio, Italy, Elizabeth Petretta and her husband, Rocco, of Westport, Josephine Bertoldo of Meriden, Antonia Prentice of Monroe and Ann Izzo of Westport; two sons, Anthony Izzo and his wife, Margie, of Tarheel, N.C., and Joseph Izzo of Westport; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by six brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will take place Monday beginning at 9:15 a.m. at the Harding Funeral Home, 210 Post Road East. A Mass will follow at 10 a.m. in Assumption Church, 98 Riverside Ave., and burial will be in Willowbrook Cemetery.
