Man Faces Drug Charges in Westport After Speeding

WESTPORT, Conn. — A Bridgeport man was charged with drug possession by Westport police Tuesday afternoon after he was stopped on Interstate 95 south in Westport for speeding, police said.

An officer driving on I-95 spotted Jack Wessels, 28, speeding in the left lane. Once the car was stopped, police said the officer reported seeing the driver reach over to the right and then to the back seat. Wessels gave the officer permission to search the car, and the officer found a glassine baggie containing crack cocaine. A can that smelled of marijuana was also found in the car, but no marijuana was found.

Wessels was charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. He was released after posting $1,000 bond and is due in court July 1.

• Westport resident Katleen Dicesare, of 11 Wedgewood Road, was stopped by police Tuesday night after she was seen making an illegal right turn at Riverside Avenue and Post Road West. Police said the light was red when Dicesare, 50, made the turn, which is marked with a "No Turn on Red" sign. When the officer approached Dicesare, he smelled alcohol on her breath. She failed field sobriety tests and was charged with operating under the influence, failure to obey a traffic sign and operating an unregistered motor vehicle. Dicesare submitted to a breath test, the results of which were 0.199 and 0.190. The legal blood-alcohol limit in the state is 0.08. She was released after posting $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court July 1.
