WESTPORT, Conn. A 20-year-old Orange man was arrested on drug charges after Westport police went to Walgreens at 1870 Post Road East on Thursday in response to a report of a suspicious car and person.
When they arrived, police found Joseph Warner on his way to his minivan. The vehicle was parked on the side of the building with the engine running with the rear sliding-door open, police said.
There was no front license plate and the one on the rear was loosely attached over a different license plate, police said. Warner, who did not have identification, was taken into custody.
While at police headquarters, he was searched and found in possession of a syringe that tested positive for heroin, police said. Warner was charged with possession of a controlled substance, drug paraphernalia, conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny, sixth-degree larceny and misuse of plates.
He was originally held on a $5,000 bond but later released on a promise to appear in court on Nov. 14 by the bail commissioner.
