WESTPORT, Conn. Fairfield resident George Knapp was charged with driving under the influence early Friday morning in Westport when he was stopped for crossing the double yellow centerline, police said.
Knapp, 42, was driving east on Bridge Street when he turned left onto Compo Road South. While making the turn, police said, Knapp crossed over the double yellow centerlines into oncoming traffic. As he drove along Compo Road South he again crossed the centerlines twice.
When Knapp was stopped, the officer smelled alcohol on his breath, police said. He failed field sobriety tests and refused to submit to breathe tests. In addition to driving under the influence, he was charged with failure to drive right. He was released after posting a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Monday, Sept. 19.
