WESTPORT, Conn. A 23-year-old Weston man turned himself in to Westport police Monday on a warrant charging him with driving under the influence in connection with a July 2011 accident, police said.
At that time, police responding to a one-car accident on Compo Road South and found a red Honda CRV on its side. The driver, Peter Damato, told officers he had to swerve to avoid hitting a deer that had jumped in front of his car, according to the report.
However, officers smelled alcohol on Damato's breath, and he admitted to having two beers, police said. Field sobriety tests were started, but Damato was transported to the hospital before they could be completed.
The department applied for and was granted a warrant for operating under the influence, reckless driving and failure to drive in the proper lane. Damato was released after posting a $5,000 bond and is due in court April. 5.
