EASTON, Conn. A Brookfield man was arrested Sunday and charged with dragging his girlfriend by her hair across a parking lot in Easton, police said.
Jeffrey Ruopp, 24, was taken into custody after he was stopped by state police on I-95 for a motor vehicle violation. When state police ran his name, they found that he had a warrant out for his arrest in Easton in connection with a domestic dispute.
Easton Police Capt. James Candee said the warrant stemmed from a complaint by a 25-year-old Easton woman who said she was assaulted by Ruopp in a parking lot on Black Rock Road.
The woman told police she and Ruopp got into an argument in a car parked in the lot. The fight became physical when Ruopp struck the woman in the face with an open hand, Candee said.
According to the police report, Ruopp then grabbed the woman by her hair and pulled her out of the vehicle and 10 feet across the parking lot.
State troopers transferred Ruopp to Easton, where he was charged with breach of peace in the second degree. He was released on a written promise to appear in court Jan. 11.
