Westport resident John Valiante of 65 South Compo Road may have gotten more than he bargained for from the ATM machine at Walgreens on Post Road East. Tuesday at 10:30 p.m. a Walgreens employee called Westport police to report a suspicious person near the in-store ATM. When police arrived, they found Valiante, 22, who allegedly had tampered with the machine, making it unusable. Valiante was charged with third-degree criminal mischief and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 17.
