Loaded Pistol Found During Traffic Stop

What started as a simple traffic stop in Westport on Friday night ended in the confiscation of a loaded handgun and the arrest of three Bridgeport men.

Around 9 p.m., Westport Police Officer Marc Heinmiller saw a late model Nissan Altima, with no visible license plate, enter I-95 north at Exit 17. Because there was no visible plate, Heinmiller pulled the car over, police reports said.

During his investigation, Heinmiller discovered a loaded .45 caliber semiautomatic pistol in the car. The driver, Tavon Holman, and his two passengers, Eulias Thompson and Jaz Sanders, were taken into custody.

Holman, 20, was charged with having a weapon in a motor vehicle, theft of a firearm and criminal possession of a firearm. His bond was set at $75,000 and he is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Nov. 3.

Thompson, 36, was charged with weapon in a motor vehicle and criminal possession of a firearm. His bond was set at $100,000, and he is due in Norwalk Superior Court on Nov. 3.

Sanders, 18, was charged with weapon in a motor vehicle and carrying a pistol without a permit. He was released on a promise to appear and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Nov. 3.
