Larry King Predicts New Canaan's Brian Williams May Get Talk Show

NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- Larry King told the Huffington Post that it's unlikely that New Canaan's Brian Williams will ever again anchor the "NBC Nightly News," but the broadcast veteran said embattled newsman may end up with his own talk show.

In a video interview with HuffPost host Jordan Schultz, King said Williams has "thrown himself under the bus" by lying multiple times about his helicopter coming under fire in Iraq in 2003.

A recent Vanity Fair story said CNN President Jeff Zucker may want Williams to fill King's old talk show slot on the cable news channel.

"I guess he could host a talk show. He's a great personality," King told the Huffington Post.

Stories about the future of Williams, who was placed on a six-month suspension back on Feb. 10, have swirled in recent days. The New York Daily News said Monday that the network news chief wants the New Canaan resident back in his seat at "NBC Nightly News."

But Politico.com reported over the weekend that NBC executives were pressuring Williams to resign.

The Washington Post reported last week that NBC News, in its internal investigation, has turned up 11 instances where Williams embellished the truth.

The problems began during a February broadcast of "NBC Nightly News" when Williams, 55, said that he was in a military helicopter that took on enemy fire. But days later Williams told viewers he had made a mistake in recalling the incident, saying that he and his team were actually in an aircraft that was following the helicopter that was hit.

In an apology, Williams said he "made a mistake in recalling the events of 12 years ago," adding, "I would not have chosen to make this mistake. I don’t know what screwed up in my mind that caused me to conflate one aircraft with another."
