MILFORD, Conn. — Northbound I-95 was congested Monday afternoon due to a jackknifed tractor-trailer in Milford, according to the Connecticut Department of Transportation.

The accident occurred at about 2:30 p.m. Monday between Exits 35 and 36, backing up traffic for more than 4 miles to Exit 31 for South Avenue, DOT said. Only one lane is open in the area, DOT said, and wreckage was in the roadway.

It was not clear how long it would take to clear the accident scene. Another major accident was reported on northbound I-95 in Milford, where a charter bus had overturned, closing the highway completely.

Heavy snow was falling at the time of both accidents, with the entire Connecticut coastline under a Winter Weather Advisory until 6 p.m. Monday.
